๐Ÿ“ Different Types of Units in ORO POS

A “unit” tells the system how an item is measured, packaged, or used. ORO POS supports 3 different unit types โ€” each solving a different real-world problem.

๐Ÿ’ก The Big Picture

One product (e.g., Coke) can be bought, stored, sold, and used in recipes in different ways. Units help track all of that without confusion.

๐ŸŽฏ The 3 Types at a Glance

Unit Type What It Does Examples Shared?
๐Ÿ“ Standard Units Globally recognized measurements Piece, Gram, Pound, Kg, Liter โœ… Shared
๐Ÿ“ฆ Packaging Units Non-standard, per-product packaging Case, Box, Carton, Pack โš™๏ธ Per item
๐Ÿฅ„ Recipe Units Used while preparing food Spoon, Pinch, Cup, Drop โš™๏ธ Per item

1๏ธโƒฃ Standard Units (Globally Known)

๐Ÿ“ What it is:

Universally recognized units of measure โ€” the kind you find on any scale or measuring cup.

๐Ÿ“Œ Real Examples:

  • โš–๏ธ Weight โ€” Gram, Kilogram, Pound, Ounce
  • ๐Ÿ“ Volume โ€” Liter, Milliliter, Gallon, Cup
  • ๐Ÿ”ข Count โ€” Piece, Each, Dozen
  • ๐Ÿ“ Length โ€” Inch, Foot, Meter

๐Ÿง  How Conversions Work

You group convertible units together. Inside each group:

  • One unit is set as the Base Unit (conversion = 1)
  • Other units have a conversion rate (multiply or divide)

Example: Weight Group

Unit Conversion Rule
Gram (Base) 1 โ€”
Kilogram 1000 Multiply (1 kg = 1000 g)
Pound 453.59 Multiply (1 lb = 453.59 g)
Ounce 28.35 Multiply (1 oz = 28.35 g)
Standard unit conversion in ORO POS

2๏ธโƒฃ Packaging Units (Box, Case, Carton)

๐Ÿ“ฆ What it is:

A non-standard “container” unit you buy in but sell out of. The conversion varies by product โ€” there’s no global rule.

๐Ÿ“Œ Real Examples:

Product Packaging Unit Conversion
๐Ÿฅค Coke 12 oz Case 1 case = 24 cans
๐Ÿ” Burger Patty Box 1 box = 100 pieces
๐Ÿงผ Soap Case 1 case = 16 bars
๐Ÿž Bread Loaf Carton 1 carton = 12 loaves
๐Ÿฅš Eggs Tray 1 tray = 30 eggs
โš ๏ธ Same Unit, Different Sizes

“Box” doesn’t mean a fixed quantity. A box of patties = 100 pieces, but a box of Coke might be 24 bottles. That’s why packaging conversions are set per item, not globally.

3๏ธโƒฃ Recipe Units (Cooking Measurements)

๐Ÿฅ„ What it is:

Small, kitchen-style measurements used in recipes. Like packaging units, they’re per-item.

๐Ÿ“Œ Real Examples:

Ingredient Recipe Unit Conversion
๐Ÿฏ Sugar Spoon 1 spoon = 5 g
๐ŸŒถ๏ธ Pepper Pinch 1 pinch = 0.3 g
๐Ÿฅ› Milk Cup 1 cup = 240 ml
๐ŸŒถ๏ธ Tabasco Drop 1 drop = 0.05 ml
๐Ÿ”— Why It Matters

When you sell a burger, the recipe deducts 1 patty + 2 spoons of mustard + a pinch of salt from inventory automatically. Recipe units make this possible.

๐Ÿ“ How to Create a Unit Group

A Unit Group bundles convertible units together (e.g., Gram + Kg + Pound).

Creating Packaging Unit
๐Ÿ’ก Important

Just creating the packaging unit (e.g., “Box”) is not enough. You set the actual conversion rate per item on each individual menu item.

Assigning packaging unit to item
โš ๏ธ Same Packaging, Different Quantities

The packaging unit “Box” can have different conversion rates per item:

  • Burger Patty Box โ†’ 100 pieces
  • Coke Box โ†’ 12 cans
  • Soap Box โ†’ 16 bars

๐ŸŽฌ Real-World Walkthrough: Tracking Coke

Here’s how all 3 unit types work together for a single product:

Step Action Unit Used
1๏ธโƒฃ Buy Purchase 5 cases of Coke from supplier ๐Ÿ“ฆ Packaging Unit = Case
2๏ธโƒฃ Receive 5 cases ร— 24 cans = 120 cans in stock ๐Ÿ“ Auto-converted to Standard Unit (Piece)
3๏ธโƒฃ Sell Single Customer buys 1 Coke can ๐Ÿ“ Standard Unit = Piece
4๏ธโƒฃ Use in Recipe Bartender adds 50 ml Coke to a cocktail ๐Ÿฅ„ Recipe Unit = ml (or shot)
5๏ธโƒฃ Result All deductions tracked accurately, no math by hand โœ… All 3 units work together
